Frequently asked questions

What is Music Therapy?

Music therapy is an evidence-based, individualized use of music to address functional goals. Music therapists facilitate music-based interventions to address social, motor, cognitive, communication, sensory, and creative goals. Please refer to the About Music Therapy page for more information.

How can I pay for services?

We accept private pay for all services at Aroha Music Therapy. We are also an approved provider with InCommunity. Depending on your insurance policy, Ananya may also be able to generate a superbill at the end of each month. These could be potential sources for funding services. For more information about pricing, please contact us.

What diagnoses can music therapists help with?

Music therapy can benefit people of all ages and backgrounds, including children, adults, and elderly individuals. It is effective for individuals with a wide range of conditions such as autism, developmental disabilities, anxiety, rehabilitation, depression, trauma, dementia, stroke recovery, and more. For more information on how we can help individuals with these diagnoses, refer to the Services page.

How do I know if music therapy will benefit me/my loved one?

Please schedule a free consultation and we would love to discuss music therapy services for you and/or your loved one.

Do I need to have musical experience to benefit from music therapy?

No, you do not need to have any musical experience to benefit from music therapy. The focus is on therapeutic outcomes, not on musical skill. Music therapy is about using music as a tool for expression, to develop skills, and to rehabilitate skills, regardless of musical ability. However, music therapists can teach you how to play/use an instrument for therapeutic benefits such as learning a coping skill, being able to express yourself creatively, etc. in a music therapy session. We can also teach adaptive lessons for those with disabilities who want to learn to play an instrument.

How much does music therapy cost?

The cost of music therapy sessions varies depending on the location of the client, therapist's credentials, and the type of session. Our current rates ranges between $110-$140 per clinical hour. We recommend contacting us directly for specific pricing details.

How can I get started with services?

As a first-time customer, you can schedule a free consultation with Ananya! She will talk through your/your loved one's needs with you and get you set up with services soon after that.
